Description
Melbourne House is a country house that has been converted into a nursing home. It was built in the mid-19th century, with a later addition. The main structure is made of ashlar, while a rear wing is constructed from coursed squared stone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features a symmetrical facade with seven bays. The corners and the central bay are highlighted by giant Ionic pilasters. There is a distyle, recessed Ionic portico, and the windows are 12-pane sashes set in raised surrounds, with sill bands. The eaves cornice is moulded, and a deep ashlar parapet conceals the roof. To the left, there is a two-bay addition that is rendered and designed to match the main building. The right side of the house is similarly styled and consists of four unequal bays, also marked by pilasters and featuring a distyle recessed Ionic portico. Inside, there is an open staircase at the rear with slender turned balusters and a moulded handrail that sweeps at the base. The hall has panelled round arches.
