Description

The caretakers house and boundary wall at Crookesmoor Vestry Hall in Sheffield date from around 1880 and feature 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and has steeply pitched slate roofs with two truncated ridge stacks. Designed in the Tudor Revival style, it has a T-plan layout.

On the exterior, there is a plinth, a moulded string course, and coped gables. The structure is two storeys high with a basement and has a four-window range. The hall, positioned crosswise to the left, has a gable front with a triangular-headed four-light window, flanked by pairs of lancet windows, all featuring stone mullions and transoms. The left side of the hall has a three-light window to the right and a square projection covering a doorway to the left.

The house range to the right has a central gable with a shouldered shape and a slit ventilator, along with a three-light cross casement window. This is flanked by a similar window on the right and a four-light window on the left, all with wooden mullions. The central entrance features a triangular arched door with a label mould, flanked by single cross casements. To the left is an early 20th-century square stone bay window with a hipped roof and a three-light mullioned window, while to the right is a 19th-century canted stone bay window with a two-light mullioned window.

The right return gable has a single light casement, flanked by three-light mullioned casements, with another single window above. The basement features a Tudor arched door flanked by three-light casements with wooden mullions.

The attached stone boundary wall has stepped chamfered ashlar coping topped with renewed railing. There are two pairs of chamfered square stone gate piers with billeted square caps and renewed gates.
