Description
Curregate Nursing Home is a house that has been converted into a nursing home. It was built in 1912 and features hammer-dressed stone with dressed quoins and a stone slate roof, showcasing a Vernacular Revival style. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a U-shaped plan with projecting gabled wings and a porch on the north entrance front. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with a continuous string course above them on each floor. The gables are coped and feature kneelers and finials, with stepped three-light windows.
The porch, which is attached to the right wing, includes a Tudor-arched doorway with carved spandrels and a heraldic shield above it. There is a cross-window on the first floor of the porch, and the inner doorway has a dated lintel. The building has four stacks, one on the right gable and the others set back from the ridge, while the left side has a hipped roof with five stacks set back from the ridge.
At the rear, there are two gabled wings, each featuring a canted two-storey bay with three-light windows and transoms on each floor. The apex of the coped gables has a three-light window with finials. Between the wings is a full-height four-light window with three transoms, which has chamfered mullions and an inner ovolo mould.
Inside, the entrance hall is oak-panelled and features an open-well dog-leg staircase with finely turned balusters. The principal sitting room has oak linen-fold panelling, and simple plaster mouldings are decorated with oak leaves and acorns.
