Description
St. Stephen's Sunday School is a building constructed around 1896, likely designed by T. H. and F. Healey from Bradford for John Clough, the patron of Hob Hill. It is made of hammer-dressed stone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is a single storey in height and features a Gothic Revival style that complements the nearby St. Stephen's Church, with which it forms a group.
The main hall is large and includes a gabled entrance porch located on the north side. The entrance features a pointed-arched doorway and a coped gable with kneelers. To the right of the entrance, there are three gabled dormers, which are set in the aisle and contain a 3-light chamfered mullioned and transomed stepped window. The main hall has coped gables and a stack on the right gable. At right angles to the main hall is a lower hall that has a 3-light stepped window set in the north gable. The left-hand return wall features a large pointed-arched east window with five lights and geometrical tracery, topped by a carved cross.
Inside, the main hall has a 5-bay waggon roof and includes a stage. The building is included for its group value with the adjacent church.
