Description

These are a pair of cottages located on St Stephen’s Road in Steeton-with-Eastburn, built in the early to mid-19th century, with two distinct phases of construction. The cottages are constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with a stone slate roof. The earlier cottage, number 2, has a two-cell plan and features quoins. It has a central doorway with monolithic jambs, and square windows with plain stone surrounds. The first-floor windows retain their original four-paned sashes. Gable stacks are present. Number 1, the later cottage, is two bays wide, with a doorway containing monolithic jambs to the left, and four-paned sashed windows with plain stone surrounds. It also has a gable stack to the right. The pair are included on the list for their group value.
