Description
Iron railings, a flight of garden steps, and an associated retaining wall date from the early 19th century and are located approximately 15 meters east of Middlewood Hall in Worrall. The structure features a gritstone wall and steps, along with wrought and cast iron railings. The sweeping flight consists of 14 steps that ascend from the lower to the upper garden, with an iron railing balustrade along the stairs and a matching gate. The steps are nosed, and there is a landing with chamfered coping on the retaining wall. The railings include rectangular standards linked at the midpoint by a quatrefoil and a trefoil beneath the top rail, with wave-form spikes. The decorative cast principal standards have a top rail that sweeps down with a scrolled support at the east end. This structure is included mainly for its group value.
