Description
The stairway and associated railings and gate at the south entrance to the churchyard of the Church of St John the Baptist date from the 18th century. The structure features twelve broad dressed stone steps set on a coursed and squared rubble base, with the upper step leading onto a landing. The railings on the south side of the steps and around the landing create a balustrade, made of wrought iron, with each rail topped by a spear cap. At the bottom of the stairway, there is a baluster that supports a scrolled section of handrail. A gate at the base of the steps matches this style. The design includes wrought-iron piers and four urn finials. This structure is primarily included for its group value with the Church of St John the Baptist.
