Description

A cutlery forge and assembly shop, dating from circa 1864, now used as a silversmith’s workshop. The building is constructed of brick with stone sills and has a slate roof punctuated by two brick ridge stacks. It is a single-story structure with an eight-window front. The windows are 12-pane sashes with slightly segmental heads. The south side features a window to the left, flanked to the left by a board door and to the right by a blocked doorway. To their right are three windows, the rightmost of which is blocked, followed by a segment-headed door and another window. The rear elevation has six windows. A glazed lean-to addition covers two blocked windows on the right side. The interior features a complete blade forge on the left and a hob grate with a back boiler on the right. The building was historically used for manufacturing decorators' spatulas and scrapers. It represents a survivor from the numerous Little Mesters’ workshops, a form of small-scale industry that was characteristic of Sheffield.
