Description
The cowhouse, located approximately 15 meters west of number 603 (Chase Farm), dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of deeply coursed, squared, and tooled gritstone with ashlar dressings and features a sheet asbestos roof. The building has a symmetrical facade and is two storeys high with three bays. It includes a plinth, rusticated quoins, and a tall central cart entrance that has rusticated reveals and a flat-topped segmental arch. There are matching flat-arched doorways in the flanking bays, although all ground floor openings have been partially blocked and modified with inserted doors and windows. A band runs along the first floor, and there is a central blank plaque flanked by vertical ashlar strips on each side. Each flanking bay features a dressed circular opening. The eaves course is coved and returned at each end, topped with moulded kneelers and gable copings.
