ROTHERHAM CLIFTON PARK Stable-block with attached wing walls, immediately to east of Clifton House

GV II

Stable now store and attached wing walls. Probably late C18 for Joshua Walker. Deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone, Welsh slate roof. Small, square, 2-storey building. 3 openings to 1st floor. Symmetrical facades. Doors to each end of entrance front have ashlar surrounds and lintels extending as quoins. lst-floor band beneath square hatch with projecting sill flanked by round pitching holes, all in dressed stone surrounds. Moulded cornice. Hipped roof. Rear: 2 tall, round-arched recesses, that to right with inserted casement. Wing wall to front left renewed c1973 (not of special interest) old wall to front right has doorway in ashlar surround and terminates at end pier from which a taller, curved section of wall with band returns to link to rear of stable-block. Old wing wall to rear left links with outbuildings to Clifton House (q.v.). Included for group value.
