Description

Numbers 1 and 2 Home Farm Cottages are former stables to Clifton Hall, dating to the late 18th century with extensions added in the mid-19th century and alterations in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with ashlar dressings, and the wings are rendered. It has gabled and hipped slate roofs. A plinth, eaves cornice, and blocking course are present. The windows are generally original round-headed sash windows with glazing bars. The central block is two storeys with single-storey wings. The central block, three bays wide, features a ground floor impost band and a first floor sill band. A projecting centre has a coped gable with a finial topped by a weather vane. An elliptical arched carriage entrance is flanked by single windows, and above this are three windows with Gothick tracery. The wings feature round-arched recesses containing openings. The right wing has a stable door and fanlight flanked by single windows, and two further windows to the right. The right return has two similar windows. The left wing has two stable doors with fanlights and two windows. To the left is an altered section, two storeys high, with a 20th-century casement window on each floor. To the left again is a shaped coped gable, two storeys high, with late 20th century windows.
