Description
This is a mid-18th century house with an attached outbuilding and surrounding walls. It was enlarged around 1870. The house is built of red brick with ashlar stone detailing and has slate roofs with two ridge stacks and a single gable stack. It has a plinth and deep eaves and is two storeys high with a six-window front. The layout is in an "L" shape. A central, rendered portico with a hipped roof covers a panelled front door. Flanking the portico are two square wooden bay windows, each with three lights and a hipped roof. To the right of the bay windows are two similar bay windows, each with two lights. On the left is a sash window with glazing bars. Above the ground floor windows are six glazing bar sashes. The right return side has a 20th-century French window and, above it, a round-arched window. The left return side features a four-panel door with an overlight, dating to around 1870, and a gable with bargeboard detailing. A rear wing has a pointed arched window in its return angle. On the west side, a single-cell outbuilding connected to the main house by enclosing walls, contains two doors and two pointed arched windows with Gothic tracery. This outbuilding is thought to have been built for the estate manager of Clifton Hall and is linked to the main house via the surrounding walls.
