Description
This is a house, originally built around 1500, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th and late 20th centuries. An addition was constructed around 1860. The building is timber-framed and brick, with thatched roofs that are gabled and hipped. Brick stacks are visible on the ridge, right gable, and the left front corner. The house originally comprised two cottages.
The front facade has two window bays. To the left, there is a casement window and a 19th-century door. To the right, there is a casement window and a late 20th-century door sheltered by a sloping hood supported on wooden posts. Above these are two late 18th-century sliding sash windows. Number 29, on the right, shows remnants of a brick first-floor band. The left return has remnants of timber framing with a mid rail, including a corner post and brace. There is 20th-century fenestration at ground floor, including a small casement, and a late 18th-century window above.
The rear addition, dating from around 1860, is constructed in brick with a plain tile roof and features segment-arched openings.
The interior of the former Number 27 retains substantial timber framing, altered in the 18th century. On the ground floor is a side wall post, a ground sill, and a cased span beam. A winder stair and three-plank doors are present, dating from the late 18th century. The first floor contains a side wall post and a collar beam, which has been resited. Plastered ceilings are also visible.
