Description

SK4292 ROTHERHAM WELLGATE (west side) 9/77 No 12 (formerly listed as Nos 10 23.11.73 and 12) II Shop. Early C19. Stuccoed ashlar sandstone, Welsh slate roof. 3 storeys, 4 windows to 1st floor. C20 shop front flanked by old, wooden, Greek Doric half columns. Large, square-headed carriage entrance to right. Continuous wooden frieze with triglyphs , mutule cornice. Tall sashes with glazing bars to 1st floor, no window over carriageway. Similar windows to 2nd floor have recessed aprons and moulded band above. Cornice with blocking course terminating at dies and rising to plinth between bays 2 and 3. Straight joint above carriage entrance indicates a short matching extension to the original facade.
