SK39NE ROTHERHAM THORPE STREET (north side), Thorpe Hesley 1/72 Nos 67-71 (odd) - II Row of cottages now derelict. C16 core to left-hand part, extended and altered C18 and C19. Some internal timber framing; thinly-coursed sandstone; Welsh slate roof, stone slates to rear. 2 storeys, total of 6 windows to 1st floor. Straight joint to right of left-hand cottage indicates position of timber-framed truss. Most openings now bricked up. 4 ground-floor doorways, that to left cottage with wood lintel linking to 2-light casement on its left, plain lintels to other doors. Ground-floor and lst-floor windows have remains of casements and some have projecting sills. Renewed brick end stacks and ridge stack near centre. Rear: 2 outshuts with stone slate roofs. Interior: left-hand cottage partitioned from row by timber-framed wall with 2 wall posts, sill beam on plinth wall, stud partition above and below mid-rail, curved brace from rear post to cambered tie beam. Collared-rafter roof construction to this part of house, side purlins, rafters peg-jointed at apex. Wall post visible inside front wall of cottage approximately 1 metre from left gable-end wall. Other houses retain chamfered spine beams and have principal rafter trusses and single purlins. Transverse beams flanking central stack may represent remains of back-to- back smokehoods. In poor condition at time of resurvey.
