Description
The Church of the Holy Trinity is a Grade II listed church built in 1837 by J. P. Pritchett the elder, with later additions. It is constructed from thinly-coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. The church is oriented from north-west to south-east, following a ritual orientation. It consists of a 5-bay nave and chancel combined, along with a 3-stage west tower, a projection at the east end, and an added vestry at the north-east corner.
The church is designed in the Gothic Revival style, with windows in the Early English style. The tower includes a single-storey porch on the south side with a pointed doorway, and a west door featuring a deeply-chamfered arch and a hoodmould with carved-head stops. The lower stage of the tower has a tall lancet window flanked by projecting piers that rise into ashlar pinnacles, with lean-tos on each side. There is a chamfered band beneath the clock on the second stage, and the third stage is made of ashlar with louvred belfry openings beneath a gablet, topped by a slender octagonal spire.
The body of the church has a plinth band and a band beneath the sills of quoined lancets, with offset buttresses at the angles and bay divisions. The church features 19th and 20th-century leaded lights, some of which contain stained glass. The east end has three stepped lancets, and there are kneelers and gable copings throughout. Inside, there is a west gallery and roof trusses that are subdivided into lancet panels.
