Bridge And Weir At West End Of Morley Pond

The bridge and associated weir at the west end of Morley Pond, located partly in Wentworth parish, were built in the late 18th century for the Wentworth estate. The structure is made of coursed, dressed sandstone and features a single span with attached retaining walls and a weir at the rear. It has a segmental arch constructed with rock-faced voussoirs and an upward-projecting keystone. The spandrels are filled with radial-jointed, tooled wall stone. There are flanking square, projecting piers that are linked by a band, and the parapet has chamfered copings. Three wing walls curve around to end at circular piers, with one wing wall being straight and featuring a domed coping. At the rear, the curved, battered retaining walls made of rock-faced sandstone rise up to a small curved weir.
