Description

A row of cottages, likely dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble with cut quoins and dressings, and have pantile roofs, except for the rear outshut which has Welsh slates. There are various brick stacks. The row is single-storied and comprises five irregular bays. The left-hand portion, with three bays, has a central half-glazed door within a 20th-century porch, three blocked doors, three four-pane sash windows, and two 20th-century casements in older openings. Coped gables feature, along with two ridge stacks. The left return shows a blocked stone-surround window. The slightly lower right-hand portion has a boarded door, a blocked doorway, and three four-pane sash windows. It also features a coped right-end gable and two ridge stacks. The right return displays a blocked segmental arch. Traditionally, these cottages served as residences for the widows of local miners. The row is included on the list for its historical interest.
