Description

Lamp standard located in front of Hall Gate United Reformed Church in Doncaster. This lamp standard dates from the mid to late 19th century and was made by Thorncliffe Iron Works. It is constructed from cast iron and features a tall base that supports a plinth with chamfered top corners. The plinth is decorated on each side with a castle and a rampant lion, and it is inscribed on two sides with the name 'Thorncliffe'. The bulb base has foliage decoration leading up to the tapering stem, which supports a later octagonal lamp at the top. This lamp standard is included for its group value.
