Description
No. 43 Prince's Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It was built around 1795 and has undergone some alterations since then. The building is made of stucco with painted stone dressings and features a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and has three bays.
The ground floor includes a 20th-century shop front on the left and four stone steps leading up to the original doorcase on the right. The steps are accompanied by an original wreathed iron railing on the left side. The entrance features a six raised and fielded panelled door beneath a leaded overlight, all set within a fluted pilastered doorcase that has a plain frieze and a moulded pediment.
There is a sill band on the first floor, with a 12-pane sash window above the door on the right and two plate glass sashes to the left, all adorned with moulded timber cornices. The cornice above the right window is supported by fluted consoles. On the second floor, there are two 12-pane sashes to the left and one fixed 12-pane window to the right, all framed in simple timber architraves with projecting sills. The building has a rendered end stack.
Inside, there is an open well cantilevered stone staircase featuring stick balusters, a ramped and wreathed mahogany handrail, and profiled cheekpieces. Prince's Street itself was laid out in 1795.
