Description
This building is a late 18th-century house, now used as offices, with attached railings. It is located on the south side of South Parade in Doncaster.
The house is constructed of painted ashlar and stucco, with painted stone dressings and a slate roof. It has three storeys plus a basement and attic, with three bays. The slightly projecting central bay has rusticated stonework to the ground floor and paired giant Ionic panelled pilasters to the first and second floors. The ground floor features a central tripartite plate glass sash window with a projecting sill and cornice on moulded consoles, set in a segmental arched recess with radiating voussoirs. Below is a fixed pane basement window. To either side of the central bay are semi-circular headed doorcases with panelled jambs, moulded imposts, reeded lintels, plain fanlights, and pediments on fluted consoles with swagged friezes. The doors are later and recessed. The first floor has three full-height unequally hung plate glass sashes over a continuous sill band, all with segmental ironwork balconies. The centre balcony is within an architrave within a pilastered surround with entablature, all set within a segment headed recess with a central patera over the window. The side windows incorporate blind rectangular panels above. The second floor has three plate glass sashes with projecting sills. An entablature sits above, featuring small paterae over the pilasters and a wide moulded cornice with a blocking course. The roof has a segment-headed dormer with a plate glass sash. Brick end stacks are present.
The interior includes doorcases with cornices and swagged friezes to the ground and first floors, with swagged panels over those in the entrance hall. An original cantilevered stone staircase rises through three floors, with iron balusters and a ramped, wreathed, and inlaid mahogany handrail. The top landing has a traceried oval ceiling light and a dentilled cornice. The attached front railings have a plain base with a central frieze of circles to alternating spaces and bead finials.
