Description

This early 19th-century house, now shops, is located on Hallgate in Doncaster. The building is stuccoed with painted stone dressings and has a slate roof. It is three storeys high and originally five bays wide, with a narrower recessed bay set back on the right. Modern shop fronts fill the ground floor, with a recessed entrance providing access to the upper floors in the right-hand bay. The first floor has five full-height windows; all are modern casements except for the window in the recessed bay, which retains a four-pane sash window. Four of the right-hand windows are partly hidden by a tall fascia board. The second floor has five two-pane sash windows with timber architraves and projecting stone sills. A blocked opening with a sill is present in the recessed bay. A dentil and moulded cornice runs along the top of the building. The recessed bay retains an original hopper head and a square gutter. Brick end stacks remain.
