Description
The stable-block and coach house located immediately behind Thackray House is a late 18th-century structure, likely built for Joseph Thackray. It is constructed of red brick with stone slate eaves courses and a pantile roof. The building is two storeys high and features a layout of one bay, two bays, and one bay, with the central bays projecting forward. Each bay contains a tall round-arched recessed panel. The second bay has a door with a flat arch, positioned beneath a casement window that has a stone sill and jambs, forming a Diocletian surround beneath the arch. The first and third bays have slatted casements beneath similar openings, with the window over the first bay being blind. The fourth bay features large double doors beneath a blind Diocletian surround. The building has an eaves cornice and a pedimented gable, which includes an unglazed oculus in the tympanum and an apex block topped with a weathervane. The end gables are ashlar-coped. On the left side, there is a gable lunette with a stone sill.
Inside, the central area has wooden stall partitions, while the coach house on the right includes a wooden handpump. There is an attached outbuilding on the left, which is not of special interest.
