Description

HATFIELD MANOR ROAD SE 6609 (SE 60 NE) (west side) 16/44 Stable-block and coach-house immediately to rear of Thackray House GV II Stable-block and coach-house. Late C18 probably for Joseph Thackray of Thackray House (q.v.). Red brick, stone slate eaves courses to pantile roof. 2 storeys, 1 : 2 : 1 bays, gabled central bays break forward. Each bay has a tall round-arched, recessed panel. Door to bay 2 with flat arch set beneath a casement with stone sill and jambs forming a Diocletian surround beneath the arch, bays 1 and 3 with slatted casements beneath similar openings (that over bay 1 blind). Bay 4 has large double doors beneath blind Diocletian surround. Eaves cornice and pedimented gable with unglazed oculus in tympanum and apex block with weathervane. Ashlar-coped end gables. Left return: gable lunette with stone sill.

Interior: central part has wooden stall partitions; coach-house on right with wooden handpump. Attached outbuilding on left not of special interest.
