Description
The barn located immediately to the south-east of Hatfield House Farmhouse dates from 1755. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond and features a pantile roof. The barn has two storeys and five bays. The north side includes a central boarded door beneath a low wooden lintel, with blocked slit vents on the ground floor and open vents above. There is an eaves band, shaped kneelers, and gable copings. On the rear side, there is an opposed ground-floor doorway in a wooden frame, and three first-floor hatches beneath flat arches, with the one on the right bricked up. Decorative lozenge-shaped vents are also present. The right return has bricked openings and decorative slit vents, with the numerals of the date 1755 forming the ends of tie rods. Inside, the barn features collared principal-rafter roof trusses.
