Description

Lily Hall, located at Riddings Farm, is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century, with a cross-wing added around 1800. The building is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond and features a stone slate roof. It has a T-shaped plan, with the later cross-wing on the right side and the earlier part having an outshut at the rear.

The earlier section is two storeys high with an attic and consists of four bays. There is an old panelled door in the second bay, while the first bay features an old horizontally-sliding sash window with glazing bars beneath a flat arch. The third and fourth bays have later casement windows beneath flat and segmental arches. A band runs along the first floor, with windows similar to those below.

The taller two-storey, one-bay cross-wing on the right is set forward and has a tall blind opening on each floor, both with stone sills and rubbed-brick flat arches. The first-floor band of this cross-wing is higher than that of the adjacent range. The older range on the left has three ridge stacks, and the cross-wing features shaped kneelers and ashlar gable copings.

At the rear of the cross-wing, there is a doorway with a rubbed-brick arch, and the right return of the cross-wing has two sash windows with glazing bars on each floor, also beneath similar arches. Inside, there is a staircase leading to the first floor and attic in the front-left corner of the main range, another staircase in the rear outshut, and a third staircase at the back of the cross-wing. The earlier range has brick smokehoods that rise through the attic, which features queen-post trusses.
