Description

The building is a dovecote and an attached outbuilding located on the west side of the farmyard at Riddings Farm, dating from the late 18th century and consisting of two separate constructions. It is made of red brick laid in English garden wall bond, with stone slate eaves courses beneath a pantile roof. The structure has three and two storeys, arranged in a pattern of 1: 4: 1 bays, with the right end bay being of a later date.

At the north end of the range, the three-storey, single-cell dovecote features windows on the ground and first floors on the west side, along with blocked pigeon holes in the upper storey. It has an eaves band, shaped kneelers, and gable copings. The four-bay section to the right includes a segmentally-arched doorway and various casement windows, as well as two boarded hatches. The right end bay has a doorway on the left side with casements on each floor and a blocked doorway on the right side of the first floor. This section also displays shaped kneelers and gable copings, along with a brick ridge stack. At the rear, there are external steps leading to the dovecote.

Inside, the dovecote features principal-rafter trusses with raking queen struts and remains of nesting holes. The building is included for its group value.
