Description
This barn, dating from the late 18th century, is located approximately 25 metres to the north-east of Gatewood Farmhouse in Cantley, South Yorkshire. It is constructed of red brick in an irregular English garden wall bond and features a pantile roof. The barn is two storeys high and consists of six bays.
On the north side, there is a double door set beneath a segmental brick arch, which is flanked by blocked slit vents. The first floor includes two square hatches with rebated ashlar surrounds and additional slit vents. The eaves have a decorative band, and the roof has raised verges. The rear of the barn has a similar central entrance and a lean-to shelter that is not of special interest.
Inside, the barn features collared principal-rafter trusses and double purlins, but it does not have a ridge beam.
