Description

Elmtree House is a house dating from the early 19th century, with a 18th-century wing at the rear that has been altered. The building features roughcast and exposed brick, with roofs covered in 20th-century cement tiles and pantiles. It has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a two-storey, three-bay front and a lower two-storey, two-bay wing to the rear right, along with a one-storey-and-attic single bay beyond.

The entrance front is roughcast and includes 20th-century cemented quoins. It has a central part-glazed door with an overlight featuring radial glazing bars, all beneath a consoled cornice. The flanking bays have shallow bows with projecting sills supporting 20th-century casements on each floor, and a similar window is located above the door. A cornice runs beneath a coped parapet, and there are large projecting end stacks with mock-stonework render.

On the left side, there is an unaltered wing that is set back. The taller part on the right has an old panelled door beneath a segmental arch, with a 20th-century casement beneath a similar arch. The first floor features old two-light horizontally-sliding sashes. The lower part of the wing to the left has a door on the right side of a casement in a widened opening, and an old boarded door to the loft on the left. The wing has cogged eaves, shaped kneelers, and gable copings, with an end stack on the lower part and a ridge stack on the taller part, which retains its pantiles.

Inside, there is an early 19th-century staircase in the front range, and part of the rear is said to have an old spiral staircase.
