Description
The Tower Mill at Mill House is a tower mill located in Hatfield Woodhouse, dating from the early 19th century, though it may have earlier origins. The mill features a coursed, squared limestone base topped by a red brick tower constructed in English garden wall bond. It stands five stories tall and has a truncated cone shape. The lower storey is stone-walled and includes old double doors on the southeast side, which are set beneath a segmental brick arch. Above this, the brick tower has a window on each floor, each with a curved stone sill and altered casement beneath segmental arches. The tower also features cogged brickwork beneath an embattled parapet and lacks a superstructure. The rear of the mill has windows on four floors similar to the front, with a ground-floor window on the left return and a mid-height window on the right return.
Inside, there is a wooden platform to the right of the door with two bottom stones remaining in place, and the complete floor structures above are accessible via ladders.
