Description

A long barn range, dating from the 16th century, with later stone cladding in the 17th century and a 1980s conversion to the northeast end. The structure includes a cottage and farm buildings. The walls are of coursed rubble with quoins, and the roofs are covered with stone slates. The cottage is two stories high and has a front outshut. To the left of the cottage is a taller, L-shaped barn range. The cottage has 20th-century window openings on both elevations. The barn range has a quoined, square-headed cart entry in its internal angle and some exposed timberwork in the left gable. The range projecting to the right shows two distinct builds and incorporates two quoined entrances and various altered openings. The gable end on the right has a first-floor, chamfered, quoined doorway with a cambered head, two round-arched ventilation slits, and a blocked, two-light double-chamfered window from which the mullion has been removed. The gable has moulded copings and decorated moulded kneelers.

The interior of the main range displays seven timber post and truss frames with principal rafter trusses bearing queen struts. Some trusses feature studding, and one displays studding below the tie-beam. The left three frames are narrower and have no posts visible on the rear side. A similar arrangement exists within the cottage. The section at a 90-degree angle incorporates three king-post trusses, one post being adjacent to the barn door.
