The ice house, located approximately 25 metres behind Number 4 The Bay Horse Public House in York, is likely from the late 18th century. It is constructed of exposed red brick laid in stretcher bond. The structure features a circular domed chamber that is about 4 metres in diameter, which is accessed via a tunnel-vaulted passage that is partly set into the rampart of the city wall.
