Description

54, 56, and 58 The Mount are shops and offices built in the mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and has a slate roof.

The exterior features three storeys and five bays facing The Mount, with two three-storey bays and two two-storey bays facing The Crescent. There is a one-bay splayed angle between the two facades. The upper storey windows are glazing bar sashes set within brick arches, except for the fifth bay on the second floor, which has a blind recess, and the second bay facing The Crescent, which features a first-floor oriel with a 20th-century timber casement. This bay also has a wide doorway on the ground floor.

The ground floor of the three-storey section has continuous timber shopfronts, partially renewed in the 20th century, except on the left side of the Mount Street facade, where there is a carriage entrance with a segmental brick arch. The two two-storey bays facing The Crescent have rendered ground floors, with glazing bar sashes on the first floor and renewed tripartite casement windows with rectangular panes and rusticated lintels on the ground floor. The central doorcase and door are also from the 20th century. Timber gutter brackets support modern gutters. There are ridge chimneys located on the left side of the facade facing The Mount, to the right and left of the second bay, and near the center of the facade facing The Crescent. The interiors have not been inspected. Nos 54 and 58 are included in the list for the first time.
