Description
No. 23 Tadcaster Road is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a slate roof.
The exterior features two storeys and three bays. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with the right-hand ground floor window having margin panes. The ground floor windows are fitted with external shutters, each consisting of three recessed panels. The entrance door has six raised and fielded panels, topped by a shallow overlight. A 20th-century open timber porch with a pitched roof extends to the roadside, providing a covered way. There are ridge chimneys on the left-hand gable and to the right of the second bay.
The interior has not been inspected, but records indicate that it includes an early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters and a moulded handrail, cased ceiling beams, and various fireplaces from the 18th and 19th centuries.
