Description

WOOTTON VICARAGE LANE TA 01 NE (east side) 3/39 Gate and flanking garden wall approximately 20 metres west of The Old Vicarage GV II Gate and flanking wall. Late C18 - early C19 with later alterations. Red brick with ashlar coping. Pedestrian gateway in curving wall adjoining house on left, with gateway to drive on right. Projecting pedestrian gateway has square piers (that to right with recessed bootscraper) with 2 brick bands and timber lintel to entrance with inserted wooden basket arch below and coping ramped-up above. Section of wall to right has 2 brick bands and coping ramped-up to later gate pier. Pair C19 - C20 timber gates with cast-iron fleur-de-lys rail above. Square pier to right with brick band. Coped wall to right has restored top section containing re-set ashlar slab with circular hole, ramped down to lower section to right. Wall to left of pedestrian gate probably later, 5 bays with projecting piers and later inserted doorway. Rear of pedestrian gateway has wooden panel above gate with pierced quatrefoil.
