Description

The gate and flanking garden wall, located approximately 20 metres west of The Old Vicarage, date from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some later alterations. Constructed from red brick, the structure features ashlar coping. On the left side, there is a pedestrian gateway set in a curving wall that connects to the house, while a gateway for vehicles is positioned on the right. The pedestrian gateway has square piers, one of which includes a recessed bootscraper, and features two brick bands along with a timber lintel. Below the lintel is an inserted wooden basket arch, with the coping ramped up above it.

To the right, a section of the wall has two brick bands and coping that ramps up to a later gate pier. There is a pair of timber gates from the 19th to 20th century, topped with a cast-iron fleur-de-lys rail. The square pier on the right also has a brick band. The coped wall to the right has a restored top section that includes a re-set ashlar slab with a circular hole, which ramps down to a lower section. The wall to the left of the pedestrian gate is likely a later addition, consisting of five bays with projecting piers and a later inserted doorway. The rear of the pedestrian gateway features a wooden panel above the gate with a pierced quatrefoil design. This structure is included for its group value.
