Description
The gate piers and wall located about 33 metres north of The Old Vicarage date from the 18th century, with the gateway being adapted in the early 20th century. The structure features two pairs of brick gate piers and a curved wall built in header bond with plain-tile coping, positioned between the inner and outer piers of each pair. Each curved wall has a round-headed doorway with painted voussoirs and a boarded door. The outer piers are topped with pyramidal plain-tile caps that have coved plastered soffits. The inner piers support a broad semi-circular arch, above which is a decorative feature with a hipped plain-tile roof and coved plastered soffit, designed to resemble a dovecote with openings at the base. This feature is flanked by inverted plaster scrolls that rest on top of the piers. There is a pair of shaped wooden gates. The garden wall, constructed from red and grey brick in a mixed bond, extends east from the gateway for about 36 metres and stands approximately 3 metres high, featuring a battered top and flint footings towards the eastern end.
