Description
The Thornton Hunt Inn is a public house built in the mid to late 18th century, with a later rear wing and some alterations. It is constructed of brick, with the ground floor roughly rendered and the upper part colourwashed, topped by a plain tile roof. The building has an L-shaped plan, featuring a central entrance hall flanked by two rooms at the front and a wing extending to the rear. It is two storeys high with three symmetrical bays. The ground floor has stucco quoins, and the entrance features a two-fold part-glazed panelled door set in a doorcase with panelled pilasters, a frieze, and a flat hood supported by brackets. This is flanked by four-pane sash windows in flush wood architraves with stucco cills. A band on the first floor incorporates a painted name above the entrance, with smaller sash windows similar to those below. An inn sign is painted and suspended from a bracket to the left of the entrance. The building has a stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice, brick coped and tumbled gables, and end stacks. Inside, there are beamed ceilings. The inn is included for its group value.
