Description
Coleby House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with coursed limestone rubble on the rear walls and features a concrete pantile roof. The building is L-shaped in plan, with a central entrance hall at the front, two rooms deep, and a rear kitchen extension. It stands two storeys tall and has three symmetrical bays.
The entrance is highlighted by a Doric door surround with fluted half columns that support an open pediment with a moulded cornice. The front door is a six-fielded-and-beaded panel type, topped by a radial fanlight and set in a panelled reveal. The windows are 16-pane sashes with channelled and keyed stucco lintels and projecting sills. The eaves cornice is stepped and dentilled, and the roof is a double span hipped design with stacks at each end.
Inside, the farmhouse features an open well staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail, slender column-on-vase balusters with square knops, and a gate at the foot of the stairs adorned with Chinese Chippendale fretwork. There are moulded ceiling cornices in the ground floor front rooms, entrance and stair halls, and the study at the rear. Throughout the building, there are fielded-and-beaded panel doors and architraves.
