Description
Elmtree Farm Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with earlier origins. It is constructed of red brick and features a concrete pantile roof. The building has a two-room layout with a central entrance hall and is two storeys high with an attic, presenting a symmetrical three-bay facade. The entrance includes a 20th-century half-glazed panelled door with a plain overlight, set beneath a 20th-century open timber porch. The windows are 16-pane sashes within flush wooden architraves, with the first-floor windows being narrower. These windows have sills and stucco flat arches designed to mimic rubbed brick, and there are straight joints beside most windows, possibly indicating earlier blocked openings. The cottage has stepped eaves and tumbled-in brickwork at the raised gables, with end stacks. Inside, there is an open well staircase featuring a corniced handrail, column-on-vase balusters, and plain newels. The ground floor right has fielded-panel window shutters, though the interior has not been fully investigated. An adjoining range to the left is not of special interest.
