Description
Haverfield House is a farmhouse built in 1779, with some later minor alterations. It features red brick that has been colour-washed and has a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan with a central entrance hall and a symmetrical south front consisting of two rooms. It is two storeys high and has five bays. The structure includes a plinth and steps leading up to a Doric doorcase, which is adorned with fluted pilasters and an entablature that has triglyphs and a broken pediment. A 20th-century glazed door sits beneath a moulded cornice and a Gothick fanlight in the reveal. The ground-floor windows are full-length 8-pane sashes, while the first floor features a band and 12-pane sashes. All windows have sills and rubbed-brick cambered arches. The house has a 19th-century moulded bracketed wooden eaves cornice and gutter, with stone-coped gables and 20th-century rebuilt end stacks.
On the left return, there is a central 19th-century panelled door with a plain overlight in a panelled reveal and a pilastered doorcase. A 12-pane first-floor sash is located beneath a lintel, with a smaller inserted casement to the right. There are single round-headed attic sashes on both the left and right returns, each with rubbed-brick arches.
Inside, the entrance hall features six-fielded-panel doors within architraves that have fluted friezes and a moulded cornice. There is a pilastered arch leading to the rear stair hall, which includes dentilled capitals, a keyed archivolt, and a panelled soffit. The open well staircase has a ramped corniced handrail and a boxed-in balustrade. The ground floor front right room has a fielded-panel dado, moulded dado rail, and skirting. Moulded cornices are present in the ground-floor front and rear left rooms, and the principal rooms have six-fielded-panel doors, reveals, and window shutters.
