Description

The Burlington Tavern is a public house located on Manor Street in Kingston upon Hull, dating from around 1800, with alterations made in the mid and late 19th century and the 20th century. The building is constructed of painted brick, featuring a rusticated painted stucco ground floor and ashlar dressings. It has a hipped and gabled slate roof with coped gables and two gable stacks. Notable architectural elements include a plinth, a ground floor cornice, and a moulded wooden gutter.

The building stands three storeys high and has a three-by-two window arrangement. The front facing Manor Street features three plain sash windows, with three smaller reglazed plain sash windows above, all adorned with rusticated lintels. On the ground floor, there is an elliptical-arched single-pane window with toplights, flanked on the right by a smaller segment-headed window and on the left by a segment-headed doorway that contains a 20th-century fielded panelled door and overlight. Additionally, there are elliptical-arched single-pane windows on either side of this entrance, with all openings featuring imposts, keystones, and hoodmoulds.

The right return of the building, facing Alfred Gelder Street, has two plain sash windows and two smaller plain sash windows above, all with rusticated lintels. The ground floor includes two elliptical-arched single-pane windows and a segment-headed corner doorway with a 20th-century four-panel door and overlight. Similar to the front, all these openings have imposts, keystones, and hoodmoulds. The interior has been mainly refitted in the late 19th century and mid to late 20th century.
