Description

The former primary school on Malton Street in Kingston upon Hull was designed by Botterill & Bilson in 1888 and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. It is built of brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof topped with a square wooden bell turret that has pedimented openings and a square lead dome with a finial and weather vane. The building is in the Flemish Renaissance Revival style and includes a plinth, a moulded sill band, and crowstepped gables, one of which has a stack and two with finials.

The school is a single storey structure with a 12-window range. The windows are wooden framed glazing bar casements, with the smaller ones featuring segmental heads and scroll keystones. The higher central block has two 8-pane windows flanked by large through-eaves dormers with crowstepped gables and finials. Each dormer contains a round-arched recess with voussoirs and a shaped keystone, which holds a 32-pane mullioned and transomed casement. On either side of this central block, there are two additional 8-pane windows. To the right, there is a lower block with two 16-pane cross casements, and to the left, a block with a flat-roofed porch and a central doorway, flanked by single 6-pane casements.
