Description

North Bridge House is a former ship supplies warehouse, now converted into flats, built in 1870 by RG Smith. It was restored and converted around 1989. The building is constructed of brick and features renewed slate roofs. It has a mansard roof with end pavilions that have hipped lead-topped roofs and finials. There is a coped side wall stack with two round flues and a deep blind basement. The eaves are moulded brick with machicolations and ashlar kneelers. The structure has five storeys plus attics and a nine-window range in an L-plan layout. The end bays slightly project and contain two windows each. Most windows are segment-headed metal glazing bar casements, with smaller windows on the fourth floor. The river front features a central bay with a glazed-in loft door on each floor, and on the fourth floor, there is a balcony on steel brackets beneath a hipped mansard roof. On either side of this central bay, there are two pairs of tall recesses with central pilasters, each containing two windows per floor. The fourth floor has four windows on either side. The attic storey includes a mansard roofed pavilion at each end, with two hipped dormers featuring six-pane casements. The right return has three windows on each floor, while the left return also has three windows but features a blind fourth floor and two segmental pointed recesses on the ground floor, each with two windows. The angled corner to the right has a single small window, and the gabled rear wing has three windows on each floor.
