Description
The lifting road bridge spans the River Hull and was built between 1901 and 1902 by the City Engineer. The bridge features two riveted wrought-iron spans that form a shallow segmental arch, with patterned wrought-iron handrails along the footways on either side. At each end of the bridge, there are brick piers, three of which have the stumps of cast-iron gas lamps. On the west end, on the north side, there is a wooden post topped with a bell. Adjacent to this is a single-storey triangular office made of brick with a slate roof, which has two windows flanked by two doors, all featuring segmental heads and overlights. To the left of the office is an S-plan approach ramp with patterned cast-iron railing that ends in a gas lamp. The bridge is complete and operable, and the mechanism was renewed in the late 20th century.
