Description
This building, located at 11 and 13 The Square, is a house and shops dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed from brick and is colour-washed, featuring pantiled roofs. The structure has an L-shaped layout, consisting of two storeys and three bays, with a 20th-century two-storey single-bay extension on the right. The Southgate elevation has two storeys and six bays.
On the ground floor, there are 20th-century shop fronts on the left, accompanied by a 20th-century corner porch supported by Ionic columns. To the right, there is a 16-pane sash window with a sill beneath a cambered wedge lintel. An elliptical arch with wrought-iron gates leads to the 20th-century extension. The first floor features four 16-pane sash windows with sills under wedge lintels. The Southgate elevation displays 20th-century shop fronts on the ground floor and five irregularly spaced 16-pane sashes with sills under wedge lintels on the first floor, along with a similar 12-pane sash window between the left-hand sashes. The building has end and axial stacks, with a hip at the junction of the ranges. It also includes the frontage to Southgate, which comprises numbers 6, 8, and 10 on the east side.
