Coverley House

Coverley House is a late 18th century building located on the west side of Market Place. It is three storeys high, constructed of brick with rusticated stone quoins. The roof is made of pantiles and features stacks at the gable ends. The facade includes three windows with hung sashes that have glazing bars (which have been replaced), wooden cases, and painted lintels above the first floor and two windows on the ground floor. The entrance is framed by a doorcase with fluted pilasters, capitals, and a frieze, topped with a semi-circular fanlight, and has a panelled soffit and jambs. An early to mid 19th century eaves cornice is supported by paired modillions. Additionally, there is a Tuscan portico with a plain frieze and cornice, also on paired modillions, and a plinth with four steps leading up to the entrance. Coverley House forms a group with several nearby buildings, including No 5, Nos 7 to 10 (consecutive), Nos 12 to 23 (consecutive), and No 23A, with No 5 being of local interest.
