Description

Boothferry Borough Council Planning Department is a house built around 1840. It is constructed of red brick in English bond, featuring ashlar dressings and quoins, and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has a central-hallway entry and stands two storeys tall with three bays, accented by rusticated quoins. The entrance includes a six-fielded-panel door with glazed upper panels beneath a divided fanlight, all set within a Greek Doric pedimented porch. This porch is flanked by sash windows with glazing bars and margin lights, which are framed by shouldered architraves, aprons, and consoles that support cornices. On the first floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars in architraves, each with sills on brackets. The building features a wide moulded cornice, a hipped roof, and end stacks.

Inside, there is an arch leading to the hall, adorned with egg-and-dart moulding on the capitals of the pilasters and a Greek key frieze surrounding the arch. The ceiling has a moulded plaster border. The open-string staircase is made of cast iron and has a plain archway at the landing level. The front office showcases an elaborate egg-and-dart and acanthus frieze with a vine border on the ceiling, along with a fine ceiling rose. The back office features an elliptical recess with egg-and-dart friezes, an egg-and-dart frieze on an elaborate modillion and rosette cornice, and another intricate ceiling rose.
