GV II House. c1840. Red brick in English bond with ashlar dressings and quoins, Welsh slate roof. Central-hallway entry. 2 storeys, 3 bays with rusticated quoins. 6-fielded-panel door with glazed upper panels beneath divided fanlight in Greek Doric pedimented porch flanked by sashes with glazing bars and margin lights in shouldered architraves, with aprons and consoles carrying cornices. First floor: sashes with glazing bars in architraves with sills on brackets. Wide moulded cornice, hipped roof, end stacks. Interior: arch to hall with egg-and-dart moulding to capitals of pilasters and Greek key frieze around arch. Moulded plaster border to ceiling. Open- string, cast-iron staircase with plain archway at landing level. Front office: elaborate egg-and-dart and acanthus frieze with vine border to ceiling and fine ceiling rose. Back office: elliptical recess with egg-and- dart friezes. Egg-and-dart frieze to elaborate modillion and rosette cornice. Elaborate ceiling rose. Neave D, Howden Explored 1979.
