Description
The Croft is a house located on Belford High Street, built around 1820 with a porch added around 1840. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a plinth, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has a double-pile plan and stands two storeys high, with three bays across and three bays deep. The exterior includes angle pilaster strips and an open porch supported by Doric columns with plain square bases. The entrance has a six-panel door with an overlight above it. The ground floor has twelve-pane sash windows with projecting sills, while the first floor features six-pane sashes with panelled aprons. A string course runs along the first floor, and there is a cornice and blocking course at the top. The hipped roof is finished with a square, corniced ridge stack. On the left side of the building, there are full-length twelve-pane sashes on the ground floor, with similar detailing throughout. To the right, there is a two-storey, one-bay service wing. Inside, there is a slightly later screen featuring two Greek Doric columns, along with a cantilevered open-well staircase that has stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. The interior also includes six-panel doors and shutters, and the two main rooms have concave panelled reveals.
