Description
The Police Station, built in 1849, is a Grade II listed building located on the north side of B 1238 in Sproatley, Humberside. It is constructed of grey brick with stone dressings, featuring timber eaves cornices and slate roofs. The main block stands two storeys high and consists of three bays with a symmetrical facade. To the left, there is a single-storey wing with one bay, and to the right, a two-storey wing with two bays.
The main entrance features an eight-panel door with a fanlight set in a round-headed opening, which has a continuous chamfer and bears the inscription "POLICE STATION 1849." On either side of the entrance, there are round-headed sash windows with margin panes and radial glazing, all situated beneath round gauged brick arches. The first floor has six-pane sash windows with sills. The building is topped with a bracketed moulded timber eaves cornice and a hipped roof.
The left wing mirrors the ground floor windows of the main block and has a low coped parapet with a flat roof. The right wing includes a four-panel door and a six-pane sash window on the ground floor, along with four-pane and six-pane sashes on the first floor, all positioned under cambered brick arches. This wing also features a hipped roof and a rear wall stack.
