Description
The building is a police station, constructed in 1846. It is made of brick and has a slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and features three wide bays. The central bay projects and is topped with a pediment, defined by rusticated brick quoins at the corners of the elevation. A 20th-century panelled door sits under a segmental gauged arch, flanked by narrow sash windows with glazing bars on either side. The side bays are illuminated by segmental headed sashes with glazing bars, which are set within recessed arches, all featuring gauged brickwork. There is a platband between the floors and three sash windows on the first floor, each within projecting architraves. The roof is hipped and has two stacks along the ridge. The interior was updated in the 20th century. This building is an early example of a purpose-built police station.
