Description

The war memorial in Sproatley, constructed around 1920, is made of pink sandstone and polished black marble, featuring cast iron railings. It consists of a tall circular column topped with a cross, which stands on a rectangular base. Each side of the base has a black marble plaque inscribed with the names of local residents who "gave their lives fighting for God, King & Empire, 1914-1918," as well as the names of those who "fought" and those who "served" in the Great War. The stepped base is surrounded by a low stone wall that is topped with cast iron spearhead railings and square corner posts with onion finials.
